| Name: | Belle |
|---|
Character: Belle
Series: Beauty and the Beast, Beauty and the Beast: The Enchanted Christmas, Belle’s Magical World, Kingdom Hearts.
Version: Disney version, pre KH when she is happily living in the Castle with her Beast.
Age: She is a young woman about 19
Gender: Female
Sexuality: Heterosexual. I am playing her this way not only because in the movie she very clearly goes for guys, but because she does live in a small provincial town and even though she reads and goes against the norm I believe that she would be uncomfortable with gayness.
Appearance: Wavy medium brown hair that ends about the middle of her shoulder blades. Her hair has some layers in it so some strands of her hair are always coming lose. Chocolate brown eyes. Very slim and slender and on the shorter side, often referred to as “little”. She wears very little make up, but her cheeks tend to become rosy rather often. She always wears dresses and generally keeps her hair pulled back.
Personality: Belle is very friendly, and always willing to help out. She has an open mind and loves to read. She is very beautiful but she doesn’t realize this, and so is very modest. She does not like being forced into doing something and will speak her mind against it. She has a big heart and when her loved ones are in danger she often goes to the rescue without thinking of all the consequences. She can be impulsive in this sense. She frightens easily, but once she gets over it she really looks at what is frightening her. She is disgusted by male chauvinists who expect her to preform certain activities simply because she is a woman. She is not afraid to do her own thing, even if it means going against what is normal. She gives everyone a chance, because she believes there is good in everyone. She believes everyone can change and is very polite to people even when they are being rude. When she is reading she becomes very absorbed in it and nothing else exists for her until she closes the book. Belle can also be very stubborn and will not give up on people easily.
Abilities/Weaponry: She is not a fighter by any means. But she can ride a horse very well. She is also well read. One ability she has is to read and walk at the same time, which shows she is well coordinated and very aware of her surroundings even as her attention is fully focused on her book. She has no weapons to speak of but she does have a magical mirror that can show you anyone you want to see, and where they are at that moment in time.
Weaknesses: Belle has a weakness for those who look like they need a friend. She will try to help them even if they can kill her with one bite. She also has a weakness for books and animals. She is also usually surrounded by very strong people, which puts her in the position of being physically weak compared to them.
History:
Belle lived with her father on the outskirts of a small provincial town set in France. She was an only child. Her father was an inventor and the town thought that he was crazy. Often his inventions did not work as they were supposed to. Belle and her father were poor but fairly happy. She would go into town everyday to get supplies such as bread and eggs for the house, and while she was there she would stop at the bookstore and the owner would allow her to borrow a new book. She loves to read and her head was always buried in a book. A local hunter named Gaston found her to be very beautiful and he was determined to make Belle his wife. She politely refused him and thought she had made it quite clear that she wasn’t interested. He did not get the hint and kept trying for her.
One day her father was going to enter one of his inventions in a fair but on his way there got lost in the forest. Belle soon went after him, very worried and she wound up in the castle of the beast. She offered herself as the beasts prisoner in place of her father. At first she was afraid of the beast, but as time goes on she sees that he is really a gentle sweetheart underneath his growly demeanor. The Beast notices that although she is fairly happy at the castle with him something is still keeping her smile from glowing. When she informs him that she misses home he gives her a magical mirror that can show her anyone she wants to see. When she sees that her father is in trouble she goes to help him. When Gaston and the villagers see through the mirror that there is a beast among them they insist on killing him. They march to the beasts castle to do just that. They are met with the enchanted furniture that inhabit the castle and there is a grand battle. Gaston himself goes for the beast. Belle of course goes to try and stop the Gaston from hurting her love. In the end Gaston is thrown from the castle roof and the Beast is hurt badly. Belle chooses this time to tell the Beast that she is very much in love with him. Because of this the spell on the Beast is broken and he is turned into a prince again. Belle and the prince, who was formerly the Beast, live happily ever after.
